THE NUMBER OF CASES OF PREGNANCY ANAEMIA RISING

Madam Jacqueline Sfarijlani, the Director of the Ledzokuku Municipal Health Directorate has indicated that the municipality recorded 911 pregnant women at 36 weeks with anaemia in the year 2022.
She stated that 883 cases were recorded in 2020, and 862 in 2021, meaning there has been a sharp rise in the number of cases in the year 2022. Madam Sfarijlani said that women with haemoglobin less than 11g/dl were at a risk of bleeding which is one of the causes of maternal mortality. She indicated that an anaemia team would be set up to find interventions that would aid reduce anaemia in pregnant women.
